[ARCHIVED] Petrifying Springs Biergarten and Kenosha County public beaches set to open Memorial Day Weekend

Old Settlers Park

Beginning this Memorial Day Weekend, the Petrifying Springs Biergarten and two public beaches in Silver Lake and Paddock Lake will open for the summer season.

County Executive Jim Kreuser welcomes everyone to venture out and enjoy summer in Kenosha County’s parks.

“Summertime is when our county parks really shine,” Kreuser said. “I hope you’ll come out and experience some of what they have to offer.”

Petrifying Springs Biergarten
The 2018 grand opening of Petrifying Springs Biergarten is set for 4 p.m. on Friday, May 25. The biergarten is located at Shelter No. 1, near the southern entrance to Petrifying Springs Park, 5555 Seventh St., Kenosha.

Petrifying Springs Biergarten offers indoor and outdoor seating, German-style food, and alcoholic/non-alcoholic beverage options. In addition, it offers activities such as kickball leagues, live music and family days.

During Memorial Day Weekend, Friday festivities will include the “Blessing of the Maibock” by the Rev. Brit Windel of DayBreak Church at 5:30 p.m., and the Tapping of the First Bier by County Board Supervisor Greg Retzlaff at 5:45 p.m. Maibock beer will be complimentary until the first keg is finished. Saturday’s highlights include a Kona Ice truck on site and live music by Alpine Blast. Sunday activities include live music by Brother Quinn, face painting and a bouncy house.

“We are extremely excited to be back for the 2018 season, said Mike Grab, co-owner of the Biergarten, which operates under a lease agreement with Kenosha County Parks. “We truly believe we have created a unique and special destination for people to take a break from their hectic lives.

“The Biergarten allows them to escape to Germany without the expensive price tag. Customers have embraced putting the phones down and getting back to what’s important, which is as simple as having a conversation with family and friends over a cold beer.”
