[ARCHIVED] Farmers urged to report flood-related damage

Kenosha County Emergency Management Director Lt. Horace Staples and the local Farm Service Agency office are urging area farmers to report flood-related damage to their crops and livestock.

Through today, damage from the July 10-12 flooding may be reported via the Kenosha County Flood Damage Hotline at 262-605-7924, or by email at [email protected]. The hotline will be shut down at 11:59 tonight, after which farmers may report damage at the Kenosha County Emergency Management main number, 262-605-7900.

The Racine County Farm Service Agency, which also serves Kenosha County, reports that many farmers have chosen not to report flood damage to the county, which is compiling damage totals to submit as part of its application for a Presidential disaster declaration. Farmers whose crops or livestock are covered by insurance are still encouraged to report damage to the county.

Those with questions for the Farm Service Agency may call 262-878-3353, Ext. 2. More details about disaster assistance programs and services offered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture are available at online at http://disaster.fsa.usda.gov.

More information about flood recovery resources is available from the Kenosha County University of Wisconsin-Extension at http://kenosha.uwex.edu/2017/07/21/flooding-flood-recovery-resources-2/ and in the News Flash section on the Kenosha County website, at http://www.kenoshacounty.org/CivicAlerts.aspx?CID=1.

Federal Emergency Management Agency officials will be in Kenosha County this week to conduct damage assessments that could lead to a Presidential disaster declaration.
