Usually when the intended use of the property is not a permitted principal use or conditional use in the existing zoning district classification.
It is required that you meet with County Development Staff prior to submitting your rezoning petition. Staff will review your proposed development to verify the proper zoning district needed and discuss the development process. A rezoning petition is a formal application submitted based upon the procedures described in the Kenosha County General Zoning and Shoreland / Floodplain Zoning Ordinance. Pre-conferences are usually attended by town officials to assure the request is compatible with town adopted land use plans. We consider zoning a partnership with the towns.
You must submit a completed Kenosha County Development Application and the appropriate fee based upon the Kenosha County Department of Planning and Development Fee Schedule.
You can anticipate that the rezoning process will take approximately four to eight weeks upon submittal of a completed application. Please keep in mind that this process may take longer if your rezoning application is tabled at the town or county level and/or if additional information becomes necessary.
