WHEN:

You want to amend the zoning district classification for an area.

WHY:

The intended use is not a permitted use by right or conditional use in the existing zoning district classification.

HOW:

It is required that you meet with County Development Staff prior to submitting your rezoning petition.  Staff will review your proposed development to verify the proper zoning district needed and discuss the development process.  A rezoning petition is a request letter that you put together based upon the procedures described in the Kenosha County General Zoning & Shoreland/Floodplain Zoning Ordinance.  Pre-conferences are usually attended by Town officials to assure the request is compatible with Town adopted Land Use Plans.  We consider zoning a partnership with the Towns.

You must submit a complete Rezoning Petition and the appropriate fee based upon the Kenosha County Department of Planning & Development Fee Schedule.

TIME:

You can anticipate that the rezoning process will take approximately four (4) to eight (8) weeks upon submittal of a completed petition.  Please keep in mind that this process may take longer if your rezoning petition is tabled at the Town level and/or if additional information becomes necessary.
