Intersection of highways 45 and C to remain closed until June 21

Intersection of highways C and 45

The intersection of U.S. Highway 45 and Kenosha County Highway C will remain closed a week longer than expected, as the state of Wisconsin continues a major project on Highway 45 in the village of Bristol.

Highway 45 remains closed in both directions between just south of Highway 50 and the Illinois state line. That closure, which began in March, is scheduled to continue until July 7.

The closure of the intersection of highways C and 45, which began May 31, was originally scheduled to last two weeks. But continuing utility work is extending the anticipated reopening of the intersection to June 21, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation has announced.

The work schedule is dependent upon the weather and subject to change.

As a detour, Highway C drivers are asked to use highways D, 50 and 83.

The entire Highway 45 project includes:

  • Resurfacing from the Illinois state line to 86th Street.
  • Reconstruction from 86th Street to Highway 50.
  • Intersection improvements throughout the project area, including the realignment of the intersection at 196th Avenue.
  • Traffic signal replacement at the intersections with Highway C and 128th Street, including the addition of emergency vehicle preemption detection.
  • Slight distance improvement on vertical curves north of 86th Street.
  • Bike and pedestrian accommodations added north of 86th Street, including an expanded shoulder and the addition of curb and gutter and sidewalk.

While the complete closure of Highway 45 is anticipated to end in July, work on the project will continue into late fall. Motorists are urged to detour around the area by way of a loop involving Highway 50, Interstate 94, U.S. Highway 41 and Illinois Highway 173.

Only local traffic for homes and businesses in the area should travel through the work zone.
